I'm not sure of the origin of this dance. I learnt it from a workshop Flag Crackers
held in 1991 for Clerical Error, who themselves have adopted it as a core dance.
Set : Single stepping.
Three couples. One long stick.

- Tips and Butts three times, three naps. REPEAT.
- Upton Hey
- Perform traditional country-dance full hey, turning inwards. at ends, and turning on
spot when returning.(16 steps) End with 3 stamps.
- Chorus
- Tips and Butts three times, three naps. REPEAT.
- Three Hands Round
- 1,2 & 3, and 4, 5 & 6 perform left-hand stars for 8 steps. They then perform
right-hand stars for eight steps back to position. On steps 2 and 10 the sticks are thrust
out vertically. During the stars, partners clash as they pass.End with 3 stamps

- Tips and Butts three times, three naps. REPEAT.
- Right Shoulders
- 4 steps across passing right shoulders (surge on the first), 2 steps turn to the right,
2 steps to meet partner in the middle. Left elbow swing partner back 1.5 turns to opposite
position.End with 3 stamps

- Left Shoulders
- 4 steps across passing left shoulders (surge on the first), 2 steps turn to the left, 2
steps to meet partner in the middle. Right elbow swing partner 1.5 turns back to original
position. End with 3 stamps

- Tips and Butts three times, three naps. REPEAT.
- Three Tops Hey
- Dancers 3 & 4 move immediately diagonally right forwards passing left shoulder of
spot 1 or 6. They turn arround that spot to their left and head to positions 2 or 5,
passing right shoulders with that spot. They head to original position and turn on
that spot to left. They end with 3 stamps.
Dancers 1 and 6 head towards spot 2 or 5, immediately after 3 or 4 has passed in front of
them. They pass right shoulders with that spot, performing a figure of eight back to the
original spot. They dance round the spot to the left, and end with 3 stamps.
Dancers 2 and 5 immediately dance round on spot to right. They then head towards spot 1 or
6.. They pass left shoulders with that spot, performing a figure of eight back to the
original spot. They end with 3 stamps.

- Eathorpe Cross
- 1 leads off and round to left. 6 leads off and round to right. Two sides approach and
cross set at right angles crossing right shoulders. 1 & 6 clash on 6th beat and clash
three times with passing dancers. 3 & 4 clash twice, and 2 and 5 clash once. They lead
round right to form in partner's position.End with 3 stamps

- Eathorpe Cross

- Willy Hey
- All pass alternate shoulders, starting with right shoulders. When dancers reach the end,
they turn and repeat in the opposite direction. The Squire does not turn but leads the
line round towards the next set. The line fans out into lines for next dance. Remainder
charge off.
