This dance is the invention of Flag Crackers of Craven. I learnt it from a workshop
they held in 1991 for Clerical Error, who themselves have adopted it as a core dance. It
is loud, yet restful.

- Hey on the Side
- Inner dancers pass right shoulders with corners and turn round corner partner's
position. Continue alternate shoulders in full hey, back to position. Turn to the right on
spot.(16 steps).End with 3 stamps.

- With partner, clash over right and under seven left times, ending with three short naps.
Repeat with corner partner.

- Crossover
- The Right-hand dancers lunge diagonally forwards on the first two steps, moving behind
the dancer crossing on the left. They dance the next two steps into the diagonally
opposite position. Meanwhile, the Left-hand dancers turn outwards on the spot in four
steps.
- Then the Left-hand dancers lunge diagonally forwards on the first two steps, moving
behind the dancer crossing on the left. They dance the next two steps into the diagonally
opposite position. Meanwhile, the Right-hand dancers turn outwards on the spot in four
steps.
- Repeat all of above, back to the original position.

- With partner, clash over and under seven times, ending with three short naps. Repeat

- Stars and Arms
- The Side couples form a RIGHT star, with sticks uprigh in the centret, for eight steps,

.5 revolutions. Turn to
right and repeat with a LEFT star keeping sticks in the centre, 1.5 revolutions back to
position. Meanwhile TOP and BOTTOM couples do 3 left-arm turns on the spot, for eight
steps, then 3 right-arm turns on the spot, for eight steps.
- REPEAT with other couples.

- With partner, clash over and under seven times, ending with three short naps. Repeat
with corner partner.

- Ins and Outs
- Right-hand dancers take 4 small steps to centre, and raise sticks with a yell, then take
four backsteps to original position. Meanwhile Left-hand dancers turn outwards and step 4
steps out of the set at right angles and bang the stick with a yell on the ground. They
turn outwards and take four steps back to position. Repeat with Left-hand dancers.

- With partner, clash over and under seven times, ending with three short naps. Repeat
with corner partner.

- Circular Hey
- Left dancers go round set to the left, right-hand dancers go round to the right, passing
right shoulders on the corners, and left shoulders in the centres. Go round 1.5
revolutions in 24 steps. Top couple process up through set with each couple following in
line. (NOTE. The last couple have to scoot fast past the front of the set, or they get get
cut off).
