We're sorry, but we will only take responsibility for the Dancing
Will I need to learn Welsh?
Oes, c˙merwch ˙ troead c˙ntaf ar ˙ chwith a'r
Do I need to bring any kit?
Yes. Bring a long stick (800mm - 900mm approx), a short stick (400mm - 450mm approx) and
a pair of hankies (more if you have a cold). Kit would be nice if we get a chance to try
out our newly learnt skills in a public place, but not essential. The workshops will be
conducted completely in the nude.
Do I need to bring explosives and chainsaws?
You are welcome to bring any additional props that you feel comfortable with. We will be
discussing the integration of such items into the dance, but will not have the time for
practical demonstration.
What about footwear?
Most UK Welsh Border teams dance in black shoes or boots. A few dance in clogs. If you
feel happier in trainers, flip-flops, fluffy slippers or stilletoes, then who are we to
complain?
Will I have to black-up?
No. I understand, that in the USA, it is considered not to be politically-correct
to black up. Get a life! Most UK Welsh Border teams Black up. "Woad Works" blue
up. "Planet Morris" Purple and Green up. "Flying Tatters" Orange
up. If you're THAT ugly, you can always wear a mask.
Is it only for Men?
No. There are lots of Men's Border teams in the UK. The are also very many mixed-sex
Border teams. There probably are some Ladies Border teams, although nobody has told me if
there are. Or if they did tell me then I've forgotten.
Is this a one-off event?
Let's see. This is just sticking a toe in the water. If it is popular then we may try
the following :
Similar event on the East Coast in the Spring
Similar event annually on the West Coast
A different format, such as a residential weekend, annually on the West Coast.
